Even giving the benefit of the doubt to the posted situation,
I'd say that FWD'ing a $1 to a stranger gives credence to the saying,
"A fool and his money is soon parted"
Sorry for being so pesimistic about this, but after escaping from a cult, a request like this sets off my BS detector, especially when done from a relatively low count poster.
As you said in your post here:

How dumb they all were for be suckered so easily.
If there really is someone in need like this, maybe a prayer or $1 on a card will do her better.
Just my $.02
hello, just introducing myself.
i'm an inactive witness, been so for a few months now.
got put off mostly by 1914 being hammered more and more lately, the child molestation issue, the un-ngo thing and just feeling like i don't want to shoot my mouth off and get labelled apostate so best to fade out.
welcome TrumanGirl.
I like your moniker in reference to the movie as well, quite apt.
If it's not in reference to the movie...
...then I don't get it

this is from the freeminds website.
i love reading quotes in their full context and realizing how much the "brothers" have chopped them up to suit their own purposes.
"From what your parents have told me, you haven't been using you paper for writing but for rolling doobies.
And there'll be a lot a doobie rolling when YOUR'RE LIVING IN VAN DOWN BY THE RIVER. "
~Sorry, didn't mean to bump scholar's thread.
shamus, you got mail
its my first post and i don't really know where to start, there been so much on my mind.
i've been reading threads on this site like crazy and obtained a copy of coc from the library yesterday.
i stayed up until 4am reading it, and i'm impressed with the way it was written - its just like reading a w only the subject matter is a little different hehe.. i'll break myself in gently with this site over time but basically a few things about me are: born in a jw family, baptized as a young teen, 1 yr aux pio, several yrs as reg pio, 1 year as 'special' full time pio at bethel.
welcome to the DB boa
what controlling statements or questions do you remember hearing or using most?
my all time favorite is, "isn't this god's organization?
and shouldn't we obey god's organization??
Try looking up the word dedication in connection with baptism. Or the word organization. Both concepts are a no show.Loris
Same story with the word 'DF'
It's not in the bible.
In fact, it's not even in the English dictionary.
And that my friends is the best example of Orwelian Newspeak.
Making up a word to take a negative action and turn it into a positive spin.
Disfellowship sounds like you have your circle of friends limited.
When in actuality it is good ole' fashioned SHUNNING.
The Scarlet Letter right down to big red Letter 'A' for apostasy.

When ever I would bring up leaving the WTS I would get these wonderful replys:
"How could you leave jehover?"
"Where else will you go?"
"Don't you appreciate the bible truths you have learned from jehover?"
Newspeak ala '1984', gotta love it.
today is the one-year anniversary of my dad's suicide.
i'm not bringing that up for sympathy or hugs, because while i feel sad i'm okay.
i agree with the experts who say that one needs a year of grieving, passing the milestones, the holidays, the familiar seasons, in order to move on, and i do feel that i am moving on.
It was just an interesting coincidence today, and a good reminder of what I left.Nina
A good reminder for us all.
Thx
a few months ago, i was sent to the mental ward.
well, this is how it happened.
my mom started barking at me for quitting my last job, even though she knew at my last job, i had to go to the psych unit for lockup because i broke down on the job and i couldn't keep it.
((((CRR))))
I don't know what else to say except that I hope things turn out better for you in the future.
'You will know them by their fruits'
